Rough Edit Feedback - Advanced Portfolio / Major and Minor Tasks:
Feedback:
- Do you think there is a consistent theme/vibe throughout the music video, digipak, and social media page?
- Chiara: Yes I do think there is a very consistent vibe through the music video, digipack and social media page. All of them capture the themes of the story.
- Charlotte: I think there is a consistent theme of sadness, and maybe pain in the music video. Throughout the other two, there is an ethereal theme and themes of quiet pain and heartache. Almost like an escaping to the woods theme. There’s a sense of beauty and loneliness throughout.
- Adin: Looking at the music video, digipak, and social media page, I can definitely see a consistent theme throughout.
- Eden: Yes - I do think there is a consistent vibe, I like the shots from the music video in the digipak that show the different phases of the music video, and I like how the colour scheme is cohesive.
- Do you think that Taylor Swift would portray a similar marketing style? (In terms of the images used)
- Chiara: Yes, I do think Taylor Swift would use the same style.
- Charlotte: I think that it looks very similar to Taylor Swifts style. She has used roses a lot from what I’ve seen. The grey tones also show the theme of quiet sadness that Taylor Swift uses a lot.
- Adin: I'm not a 100 percent sure, as I am not too familiar with Taylor Swift's more recent music, and subsequently the way she markets it. However, from bits and pieces I have seen, I think that she could portray a similar marketing style.
- Eden: Yes I do - I think particularly for the social media page
- Is there anything that you would change about either the Music Video, Social Media Page, or Digipak?
- Chiara: Music video, the only thing I would change is how quickly the shots interchange, they are a little bit too fast at some points and the technique I think is used a bit too much throughout the video. I would change the profile picture on the social media page as typically artists will use a picture that relates more to the music they have just released, or at least in Taylor Swift’s case she does.
- Side note, the evermore font isn’t correct on the social media page, she uses the same font as folklore because they’re sister albums - Charlotte: I think that there could be less flashing between scenes. The meaning behind the rose could be more clear aswell. We saw it a lot but only briefly. Maybe in your perfect copy we could have the rose less often but for longer to truly be able to grasp the meaning behind it.
- Adin: I think the social media page and digipak are great as they are, reflecting the content and themes displayed in the music video, as well as behind-the-scenes content which can normally be found on artists' pages. As for your music video, it's coming along well. I really like how you shift between the shots of the female lead in the room and the rose on the beat; its super cool. I also like the interchanging shots of the female lead walking down the hall and walking outside - the shots are very cohesive, and it is very satisfying to watch as it unfolds. Also, the camera work is really cool towards the end, when the characters are in the argument.
- Eden: I love the whole thing, however, I think the parallels are a tad bit overused in the music video, and for a more dramatic effect I think it should be used in key places, so maybe not too much, but I still love the parallels in it because I think it's really cool.
Teacher Bianca's Notes:
- Firstly , wow! So much effort has gone into this already! I love seeing your vision for the different types of shots come to life
- You have a great array of interesting shots and I like the contrast between the shots of your main character on her own and together
- I like that you’ve cut down the amount of time you do the cuts with the heartbeat in the beginning
- I like the golden twinge to the outdoor shots, that works really well as an after effect
- I would suggest a few tweaks to make this more realistic ‘feeling’/ looking
Main Feedback:
- play around with superimposition for a 3rd variety of shot where instead of only cutting between the 2 shots, some can actually have both shots on the screen at once, superimposed onto the other shot
- I am looking forward to another after effect in the mix to really help give it another cool element. Whether it’s the big lyrics as planned or some sort of visually interesting effect, I feel like there is room here to take some cool shots and add in a really impressive layer to it
- What about some more rose shots where you just linger on the rose a bit and make it more of a feature?
- What about some more slow-motion use – anything that’s a flashback (them talking, them fighting, hands letting each other go – all feel like they could use slow mo
- What about thinking about an after effect with the colour red? It seems to be sympbolic and whether it’s red squiggles or something ‘fun’, it could add something cool to shots that need a pop of colour?
- There are points where I feel like you could add in another shot to keep it interesting
e.g.- when main character is sitting up in bed and singing with her back to the camera
- when main character is sitting in the hallway
- Just in general, some extra changes in shots could help keep the pace of this smooth and moving along
